~How do I get from the airport to the camp?
We strongly recommend contacting Roadrunner Shuttle to reserve a ride to the camp. You can share a shuttle with friends and save even more! You may want to look in to booking a flight into Bob Hope International Airport in Burbank which is closer to the camp. Please know that services like Uber and Lyft are prohibited from picking up passengers at the airport, but you may book one for your return trip. Taxi service from LAX to Thousand Oaks could be quite expensive, so we suggest looking into a shuttle or ride-sharing service.
~Can I bring a guest?
Yes! Many of our students bring spouses/family and friends. There is plenty to do in the area. Hollywood & the Sunset Strip are 25 minutes away and you can be on the beach in Malibu in 20 minutes! The Camarillo Outlet Malls are just 5 minutes away -- and it's only 90 minutes to Disneyland!
Non-students may observe camp activities as long as they are not disruptive or interfere in any way. Guests are invited to attend the DW Factory tour, although transportation will be prioritized for students.
~What skill level is required to attend and am I required to attend all the activities?
Classes and curriculum are developed to accommodate all ranges of playing. All classes are optional and open to everyone. It is not a requirement that you attend all camp activities. You may participate in as many or as few of the daily classes as you wish.
~Is there an age requirement?
No. Minors will be required to provide a consent form from a legal guardian. Minors who would like to attend the camp + hotel option must be accompanied by a legal guardian. We typically have a wide age group of students ranging from as young as 10 and ranging all the way up to Senior Citizens. All are welcome!
~Are meals included?
Daily American breakfast is included in your hotel booking.
~What if I want to stay extra days?
If you would like to extend your stay, the Palm Garden will continue to honor our group rate of $115.00 plus tax for the duration of your stay.
~What about booking private lessons?
After signing up, you will receive a Student Information Sheet via email where you can pre-book and pay for private lessons. We highly recommend you book any lessons in advance as they always sell out.

Most people arrive after 4:00 PM the day before (July 4th) if they are staying in the hotel. But you need to be onsite and set up -- ready to play by 9:00 AM on July 5thth so plan accordingly. Last day of the Big Drum Bonanza, we usually wrap up for photos and goody bags by 5:00 PM, but if you need to leave earlier to catch a flight, please let us know and we'll make sure to give you your goodies before you leave!
~Face time: Will they really be there?
Yes! All week long! You will eat, play, and learn from the masters with plenty of time to ask questions, get photographs and autographs. Unlike other camps, at the BDB you will study with EVERY instructor. No need to request who you want to study with -- you get them all!
