Frequently asked questions:



~When will my deposit be run?
We will run your deposit immediately. ALL deposits are nonrefundable. Sorry -- there are absolutely no exceptions.


~What gear do I need & what is provided?
For the “Bootcamp” part of the camp, you will need to bring your own sticks, throne, practice kit & double pedal.

For all the other lessons and masterclasses you won’t need to bring any equipment.


- If I don't have my own gear, or don't want to travel with it, how do I get it?

When you register for the Big Drum Bonanza 2014 you will be emailed a Student Information Sheet that will allow you to reserve and pay for any gear rentals or purchases. Gear MUST be reserved Prior to June 15th to ensure availability. Rates for gear rentals will increase after the cut off date and we cannot ensure the availability of any equipment rented after June 25th.


- What gear do you use at the camp and what can I bring?

We use the DW "Go Anywhere" practice kits, the DW 2000 Series Double Pedals and DW thrones. You may bring similiar equipment or a small electronic kit will work.


- Can I bring my drum kit?

NO. Students do not play on acoustic kits because if we put 40 students in a room all playing on a live kit, you all would be deaf by the end of the first day. There are acoustic kits available and students can play on them when applicable. Students may alos play on the instructors kits with permission.


What about private lessons?

You can book private lessons via your Student Information Sheet. Lessons are first-come, first-serve and lessons are booked during camp hours. If you arrive at the camp and decide you would like to book a lesson or an additional lesson, you may do so but we reccommend signing up in advance because space is very limited and most teachers schedules fill up completely. Payment for all private lessons is due in advance, and fees are 100% nonrefundable. If you miss your lesson time, rescheduling is at the discretion and availability of the instructor. Lesson fees are nontransferable between different instructors.


~How do I get from the airport to the camp?

We strongly recommend contacting Roadrunner Shuttle ( to reserve a ride to the camp. You can share a shuttle with friends and save even more!


~Can I still come if I’m not a musician?
YES! Come hang, explore and have fun! Hollywood & the Sunset Strip are 25 minutes away and you can be on the beach in Malibu in 20 minutes! The Camarillo Outlet Malls are just 10 minutes away -- and it’s only 90 minutes to Disneyland! More than half of our guests bring their families, spouses, etc., and enjoy a nice holiday in the California sunshine. We highly reccommend you bring someone with you to enjoy the experience!


~What skill level is required to attend?
Classes and curriculum are developed to accommodate all ranges of playing. All classes are optional and open to everyone.


~Is there an age requirement?
No. Minors will be required to provide a consent form from a legal guardian.


-Do I need to be able to read music?



~Are meals included?
Yes! Daily American breakfast is included in your package price as is free wifi and access to the hotel fitness room.


~If I want to bring my spouse but they don’t want to attend classes, can I?
But of course! In order to bring a non-participant, you don’t need to pay a separate fee unless you need an extra hotel room. If you’re bringing the whole family, let us know and we can work with you to get you the best hotel rates!


~When is check in and when is check out?
Let us know when you’re arriving. Most people arrive after 4:00 PM the day before (June 24th) if they are staying in the hotel. But you need to be on site and set up -- ready to play by 8:00 AM on July 2nd so plan accordingly.


~Face time: Will they really be there?
Yes! All week long! You will eat, play, and learn from the masters with plenty of time to ask questions, get photographs and autographs. Unlike other camps, at the BDB you will study with EVERY instructor. No need to request who you want to study with -- you get them all! MUSO Entertainment/Big Drum Bonanza reserves the right to offer qualified substitute faculty and entertainment at our discretion in the event of the inability of a faculty member to attend, or other special circumstances, such as an emergency, illness, etc. If any such changes are made, MUSO Entertainment/Big Drum Bonanza will make reasonable efforts to notify registrants by updating our Web site with the most up-to-date information. Attendees are still responsible for the full amount of their registration fee.


~How do I get there?

If you are arriving at either LAX or Bob Hope International Airport and you are NOT renting a car, we suggest you book a shuttle to get to the Big Drum Bonanza. Taxi rides from the airport are very expensive.


~Is there cell phone reception  and wifi at camp?!
There is cell phone reception and free wifi at the hotel.


~How do I make my final payment?
You need to make your final payments by June 15th. All deposits are non-refundable. If you do not make your final payment by the 15th, your spot in the camp may be forfeited to another camper on the waiting list. 100% of all payments are nonrefundable afer June 25th. Sign ups after June 15th must be paid in full.


~What about event cancellation?
MUSO Entertainment/Big Drum Bonanza reserves the right to cancel the event at any time at our discretion if deemed necessary due to a lack of participation or any other reason. If the event is canceled, all fees collected by MUSO Entertainment/Big Drum Bonanza will be reimbursed by check. MUSO Entertainment/Big Drum Bonanza is not responsible for reimbursing any travel fees, fees for accommodations not provided by MUSO Entertainment/Big Drum Bonanza, or other expenses. We recommend in any case that you purchase travel insurance.


~Can I take photos, video or audio recordings?
Yes. Although, each counselor may have their own policies regarding filming and and you will be required to sign a waiver stating all recordings, footage and/or photos will be used strictly for personal use and not commercially. Remember, YOU paid to be at the camp. Why would you give it to somebody else for free?


~What is the weather at camp?
Weather in Southern California in the summer is SUNNY and very warm in the days -- you may want to bring a light jacket for the evenings.


~What do you suggest I bring with me?
Clothes & Toiletries (toothbrush, soap, shampoo etc ...)

Writing utensils & Note Paper
Water bottle

Closed-toe shoes (A MUST for the DW Factory Tour)
